Yesterday I took part in a plain air “quick paint” contest at the KC Big Picnic. The picnic took place on the lawn of the Nelson and everything about it was just picture perfect. The weather was wonderful. Kids were running around flying kites and adults were sitting in the shade listening to live music and discreetly sipping bubbly wines.

While I didn’t create the best painting ever, I feel like it really captured the spirit of the evening and it makes me happy, so a win in my book. I didn’t win the contest (take a look at the winner—GORGE!), the sponsor company wanted to purchase my piece anyway! A great end to a wonderful weekend!

Went ahead and added a print of this to my etsy shop. A wonderful memento if you happened to be there!

Finally had a chance to put together all the hand lettered section intros I did for A Woman in the House. My editor had the idea to do each section in a style that reflected the era covered in that section. I thought it was a great, albeit challenging, idea and ran with it. Still can’t believe they let me put Back to the Future-style 1980’s lettering over Supreme Court Justices!
